The Joshi or Chilimjoshi festival is held in the Kalash Valley near Chitral at the end of May each year. The festival involves folk dances, folk music and exchange of dishes and signifes the welcoming of spring by the people.
This festival is also celebrated by the people of Kalash around December 7-22 ,at the beginning of the month chowmos mastruk. It marks the end of the year’s harvest and involves singing, dancing and sacrifice of goats.
Shandur Polo Festival
The Shandur Pass in the Chitral district which has an elevation of 12500 feet hosts the highest polo ground in the world. The Shandur Polo Festival is held here every year sometime in July. A traditional polo tournament is played between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit. Other activities in the festival include folk music and folk dances.
Nauroze, which is a festival linked to the Zorostarian faith is celebrated every year from 21st to 23rd March in Gilgit, Hunza, Chitral, and Skardu. Polo, football, volleyball and hockey matches, folk dancing and folk music are some of the main attractions of this festival.
Lok Mela is a cultural festival which is held at Islamabad during the first week of October. The main objective of the festival is to highlight and portray the culture and crafts of the country.
Another festival held in the Kalash valley, from 20th-25th September! It involves reaping grapes and walnuts, dancing and singing.
A cultural festival held at Shikarpur, Sindh in April which portrays the culture of Sindh and is one of the most celebrated festivals of Pakistan.
Mela Chiraghan, meaning the Festival of Lamps is held outside the Shalimar Gardens in Lahore in the last week of March.
