After 10 years, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has decided to reopen its motel at Satpara Lake, Skardu. The motel had to be closed because of the construction of Satpara Dam, making it inaccessible for tourists. PTDC Managing Director, Abdul Ghafoor has reported that the motel will be restored introducing new services and facilities, spurring intense competition for other motels located nearby.
Pakistan Tourism Development Corportation has nine other motels located all over Gilgit Baltistan with a loyal customer base. The Managing Director, Abdul Ghafoor says: ‘Tourism not only earns foreign exchange for the country, it also provides direct and indirect income to the local people, scores of trade and services including transport, food and hospitality sectors thrive on tourism.’
The Gilgit Baltistan government has reported that around half a million tourists visited the mountainous region last year. PTDC plans to focus on the region’s beauty and scenic spots to increase the flow of local as well as foreign tourists. With recent political and economic instability faced by the country, many corporations have joined hands to improve Pakistan’s image worldwide.
PTDC motel will overlook the beautiful Satpara Lake. The lake is one of the top most visited tourist spots in Gilgit Baltistan and is also one of the largest fresh water lakes in the country.
